Debojit Roy

Debojit Roy holds a BFA and MFA from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2019 and 2021). His practice reflects a sustained engagement with ethnographic objects found in semi-rural settlements — fish traps, bamboo structures, temporary religious frameworks — as sources for abstract sculptural linear designs. Lines in his work get pleated, tilted, cross-cut and run parallel until any identifiable features of their source forms vapourise into latent images on the verge of development. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Rajya Charukala Prashad, Kolkata (2023) and the Birla Annual Award for Sculpture by the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata (2023).
