Rutvi Vakharia

Rutvi Vakharia completed an MVA in Painting from The M.S. University of Baroda, Vadodara, where she was awarded the Narendra Gajanan Bhatt Gold Medal (2023) and the Nasreen Mohamedi Award for Best Display (2021). Working across watercolour on paper, mixed media installations and carving on plywood, her practice is an inquiry into the idea of home as space — with particular interest in the middle class houses of India. Her watercolour works are melancholic ruminations on the slow transformation of domestic spaces: derelict lands, urban sprawls, the desolate abandonment of naked architecture, moisture leaking through walls, layers crusting onto floors. She has participated in residencies at Shimeesha Art Studios and Space Studios, Vadodara, and Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal.
