Jyotindra Jain

Art Historian and Former Professor of Visual Studies at School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University

Jyotindra Jain, formerly Director of the National Crafts Museum; Professor of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU); and Member Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, was a Visiting Professor at Harvard University, USA, at Humboldt University, Berlin, and a Getty Distinguished Professor at JNU. A pioneering scholar of Indian vernacular arts as well as mass-produced Indian popular visual culture, Prof. Jain has extensively published in the areas of his specialization, and curated exhibitions shown in some of the most respected institutions in India and abroad. A recipient of the Prince Claus Award for Culture, the Netherlands in 1998, and the Cross of the Order of Merit, Federal Republic of Germany in 2018, Prof. Jain is a Fellow of the Asiatic Society of Bombay.
