Katia Arfara

Independent Curator and Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at NYU Abu Dhabi

Katia Arfara is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at NYU Abu Dhabi, and an independent curator. Her scholarship and curatorship focus on migration, ecology, memory and the politics of representation. Her research appears in Theatre Journal, TDR, Theatre Research International, and Performance Research. As the Theatre and Dance Artistic Director and Curator of the Onassis Stegi in Athens (2009-19), she has initiated and curated numerous interdisciplinary festivals at the intersection of art, science, and civic practice, such as the site-specific Fast Forward Festival (2014-2019). She co-leads the Elements Pod in NYUAD's Anthropocene Research Kitchen. Dr Arfara is the author of Théâtralités Contemporaines and the co-editor of Intermedial Performance and Politics in the Public Sphere. Her book Curating the Commons: Socially Engaged Public Art is forthcoming by the University of Michigan Press.
